I find that I keep getting to work with the best families, these guys were so fun and easy going. It made our hour pass by so quickly. Their kids have the best personalities and I enjoyed so much getting to take their pictures. We have had a lot of fires which has been sad, but they do make for some beautiful sunsets. We caught these right at the perfect timing, the whole sky was so beautiful and it really cast a gorgeous glow over the family for our session.
Here’s a tip for photographing sunsets;
When doing portraits because we always expose for the people it can be difficult to not overexpose or “blow out” the sky this is where your highlights are blown out and you can no longer recover any of the data in the sky because there is none to recover. It just makes a bright white sky with no detailing. (Sometimes this is the look we go for though!) However if you want to retain the details in the skys underexpose your image slightly and then you’ll keep the data and be able to expose correctly in post processing.When you do go to process in post in both ligthroom and photoshop you can mask a certain area of the image and adjust the exposure in just that area. So for these images we would brighten back up our subjects but keep the sunset the same so that we retain the detail. Hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions! 🙂
